Celebrate the season with creativity, community, and holiday cheer at our Holiday Wreath & Bow Making Workshop! Join us for a fun, hands-on experience where you'll learn the art of creating a beautiful custom wreath and crafting stunning designer bows to elevate your holiday décor.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crafter, you'll receive step-by-step instruction on wreath design, bow-making techniques, and how to combine seasonal colors, textures, and embellishments for a professional look. By the end of the class, you'll take home a one-of-a-kind holiday creation ready to display on your front door or gift to someone special.
This special workshop will be hosted at Flowers & Designs by Ernest, home of Ernest, a local legend in floral arrangements and design. Known for his creativity, artistry, and eye for detail, Ernest's expertise will inspire participants as they create festive pieces to enjoy throughout the holiday season.

Discover the relaxing and creative art of embroidery! This beginner friendly class will introduce you to basic stitches, techniques, and tips for working with needle and thread. Create your own beautiful, stitched designs while learning at a comfortable pace - no experience necessary. Come stitch, create and have a little fun along the way!

Sewing for Beginners

Discover the joy of sewing in this fun, hands-on class designed for absolute beginners. You’ll learn how to use a sewing machine, read simple patterns, and master essential stitches and techniques. By the end of the course, you’ll complete a small project or two to take home — building confidence to tackle your own creative sewing ideas. No experience needed — just bring your sewing machine, your enthusiasm and get ready to create! ($70)


Sewing II - Patterns & Basic Alterations

This intermediate class is designed for students who are comfortable using a sewing machine and have completed a beginner sewing course or have equivalent experience. Learn how to read and follow commercial sewing patterns, select the right size, cut fabric accurately, and assemble garments with confidence. You'll also be introduced to basic clothing alterations, including hemming, taking in seams, and making simple fit adjustments. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills to create a project from a pattern and customize garments for a better fit. ($70)

Dancing with the Current: Mastering the Fly Rod

Learn the essential art of fly‑rod casting in this fully hands‑on, beginner‑friendly workshop designed to help you build skill, confidence, and smooth techniques.
This class focuses exclusively on casting with the fly rod. Participants will practice proper stance, grip, and rod control while learning the mechanics behind clean, efficient casts. Through guided demonstrations and plenty of real‑time practice, you’ll master foundational techniques such as the basic overhead cast, timing and rhythm, and line management.

Perfect for anyone, of any age, curious about fly fishing or eager to improve their casting ability. This class offers a relaxed, supportive environment where you can learn by doing and leave with a cast you’re proud of, all taught by writer and fly-fishing expert, Ron Dupuis. ($50)

Fly-Fishing: On the Water

Take your fly-fishing skills from practice to the real thing! Join us at the water’s edge at Radio Island for hands-on fishing and fun. Bring your fly rod (if you have one), a valid fishing license and don’t forget your waders!  Ron will have rods if you haven't decided on the right one for you yet.

This class is for those that have taken the first fly-fishing class with Ron. ($50)

Discover the Art of Mah Jongg

Step into the fascinating world of Mah Jongg, the timeless Chinese tile game loved for its blend of strategy, skill, and a little bit of luck. In this class, you’ll learn to identify the tiles, master the rules. Learn how to read the latest National Mah Jongg League card and get plenty of hands-on practice in a friendly, social setting—perfect for sharpening your mind and enjoying lively games with fellow enthusiasts. Come ready to play, laugh, and leave feeling like a Mah Jongg pro! Classes will be held in the Foundation Building (the old church) on campus. ($65)


Mah Jongg- Beyond Basics

Ready to take your Mah Jongg game to the next level? This class builds on the basics while providing plenty of practice to help you play with greater confidence. Explore smarter tile choices, advanced strategies, reading the table and anticipating your opponents' moves. All skill levels are welcome, but this class is especially suited for players who know the fundamentals and would benefit from additional practice and guidance.  Come sharpen your skills, build confidence, and enjoy the game!

This class will be taught by Paige Crowther who teaches in Raleigh, plays here and wants to share her love of the game with everyone.

Life Enrichment class topics offered are based on community input and range in skill levels from beginner to advanced. Classes can take place in one session or span several weeks. Please note: Life Enrichment classes cannot be used for credit toward any of the college’s degree programs.
Life Enrichment class registration fees vary and there are no fee exemptions for these self-supporting classes. If for any reason a student cannot successfully complete the class, he or she will need to register again at their own expense. Registrants may receive a full refund if a Life Enrichment class is canceled prior to the start date due to low enrollment, or the student withdraws from the class before the start date.
